Cost of a College Education
I think just about everyone would agree that college costs are out of control. Even with my tuition taken care of by the Promise Scholarship, I still have to get thousands of dollars in loans each year to pay for everything else. Most of it's a rip-off. In the past week I've had to pay $5 to park in addition to the $145 I paid to get the pass and was told I couldn't take my left over fries with me out of the cafeteria. Why not? I pay a butt load of money for those fries and should be able to eat them when and where I want. I think meal plan should be paid for as you use it like in high school where they sent home a monthly bill for the number of meals you consumed. I shouldn't have to pay for 15 meals this week if I only eat 10. And why are meal plans so expensive anyway? It's not like they're buying delicious, gourmet food. I think most college expenses should come as a bill at the end of the semester. They should keep track of the number of meals you ate, the number of sporting events you attended, the number of Marshall Artist Series shows you went to, and anything else they charge you for and bill you for only those ones.

Oh my gosh i could not agree with you more. One time my MUID got stolen aand they made me pay for a new one. I did't lose it it was stolen how is that my fault?! but anyways they should cut back on prices!

Great idea, and as an out of state student I understand where you are coming from. BUT that being said, what you are wanting is just impossible. Marshall University would not and will not ever consider taking the daunting task of keeping track of everyone's daily food consumption. Or for that matter the football games, basketball games, or volleyball games you attend. Marshall wants your money. And they will get it.

wonderful. i love that you described the fries as a buttload. It adds to the point that it is not as if we are eatting top notch food.

The cost is out of control, have you heard they are adding an extra $130 onto tutuion next semester for the use of the new fittness center? it is unfair! I don't like the fact that freshman have to get the unlimited meal plan, or that if you do have unlimited you can't get a to-go box. I also hate that we can't go in and get a cup of coffee or hot chocolate to take to class, we are paying all this money for meals and its just going to waste

That is a really good idea. You should present that to the student government or something. It would never happen but still, it's worth a try.

Yeap, your right. Everything's a rip-off! The meal plan is crazy, I mean, why can't we take out our leftovers, because we did pay out the butt for it! Nothing will ever change though, it's ALL about money.

Marshall sucks when it comes to alot of this stuff. Akron's school has a meal plan where they are given 86 dollars a week and can spend it at all the restaurants and stores around campus and the left over money transfers to the next week. Plus, all the left over money at the end of the year can be turned into a gift card. I'm so jealous.

I don't think Meal Plans should be included in our costs at all. I no longer live on campus; the cost of driving 45 minutes every day is actually alot less expensive than staying in Huntington, which is a town I hate anyways.

OMG, you are exactly right! I mean honestly, I pay for 15 meals a week and I BET I eat 5!! I ony bought it because I HAD to. I mean really.. Why do we even HAVE to if we don't want it. Just another RIP OFF!

i agree that the price is way 2 high for the quality...i could go eat chinese buffet (and rather would) for the same price of each meal... i live over an hour away in ohio but have lived in a house on campus for 3 yrs now... i get a comuter meal plan of 50 meal/50 flex and its really expensive...but i eat over there cuz its already made and i dont have to cook any myself! lol

I AGREE i think I can't believe we cant take our fries out with us. This one time i got told i couldnt take two banannas, i was eating one while walking out and taking one for later and there like nope. Its messed up they should make some changes to the meal plan.

All those cafeteria rules drove me crazy too! I had the meal plan last year and like you I hated that you couldn't take stuff with you without having that crazy lady chase you down and I hated that you couldn't get things to go. Also, at alot of universities you can swipe your card twice if you bring a visitor with you and its not a big deal. I wish it was like that here.

I really don't like a lot of the things that Marshall does. However, just like a lot of things in this state nothings going to change for a long time due to whose in charge. We've had the same people running stuff here for a really long time and need a good change up for just about every position to really accomplish some good change.
